If you’re really concerned about cost, you could do a full fitness business newsletter one month and a postcard newsletter the next (alternate the two). The postcard newsletter I’m going to talk about is very powerful, but not nearly so much as the full newsletter. However, like I always say, you should TEST!
All the elements of a standard newsletter apply to this postcard as well. The only difference is that this is, well… a postcard. It’s simpler and easier to produce, yet generates incredibly powerful response.
Important Features and Strategies:
The newsletter is designed to include various topics of interest to a broad base of readers. It’s very different from those “canned” 4-color, slick newsletters you might have seen. And there’s a very good reason why.
See, only a very small fraction of people reading your fitness business newsletter are interested ONLY in health and fitness – you want to appeal to them on many levels. And if you sent them one of those “all about me” newsletters, hardly anyone would read it because it would be of no interest to most people. That’s one reason why those “slick” newsletters you buy from services simply don’t work.
This newsletter has interesting, compelling, fun, and newsworthy articles and sections – things that get people involved – which has a much greater readership. Plus, it’ll only take a few moments for people to read through your postcard newsletter — how could they miss it?
You must provide great topics that people want to read, including consumer tips, health tips, inspirational messages, quotes, interesting facts, resources, trivia challenges, and other interesting news and information. Each issue should have a different combination of content materials, all designed to maximize readership.
However, there are also a number of important response and “teaser” strategies designed specifically to motivate people to interact with you. They include quizzes, special offers, referral stimulators, email capture and more. The more your clients and prospects interact with you, the greater the likelihood of getting new clients, referrals, and repeat personal training business. Be careful not to change any of these strategies, because your newsletter may not work as well if you do.
Include An OFFER!
Be sure to include a special offer each month you send this out. There is a space for you to include a special deal like buy 3 personal training sessions get 1 free, 25% off something, etc. This will make your postcard newsletter a revenue maker – not just some “warm and fuzzy” follow up.
How to Send It
I suggest using yellow card stock. Your fitness business customers or clients will start looking forward to that brightly colored, oversized (6″ x 10″) newsletter postcard they’ll find in their mailbox from you each and every month.
Postcards are really easy to get out the door. Just slap a mailing label on them and postage. That’s it, and you’re ready to go!
